With a new name designed to recognize all services it offers, the UT Office of Human Resources and Talent Development will begin rolling out a new approach to doing business that is focused on partnership during the coming months.

“We want to work strategically with academic, clinical and business unit leaders to help them achieve their goals,” said Connie Rubin, who leads the office with Kevin West.

One key change will be locating five HR professionals on Health Science Campus in order to provide strategic performance management, in-person consulting services, assistance for unit leaders to design strategies for the goals they have been asked to accomplish, and personalized coaching and mentoring for employees and managers.

“We want unit leaders to collaborate with Human Resources and Talent Development by having a committed Human Resources and Talent Development staff person readily available on site to help them meet the strategic goals of their units,” West said. “The University’s continued success is dependent upon great leadership and vision coupled with strategic management of our most valuable resource, our outstanding employees.”

West and Rubin both pointed to Directions 2011, UT’s strategic plan, as the lodestar Human Resources and Talent Development will focus on as it works to change its structures and processes to better align with the needs of the University.

Adding the Health Science Campus office is just one example of this restructuring. Beginning Monday, March 5, Human Resources and Talent Development will be located in the Facilities Support Building Room 1000, east of the Collier Building.

“We’re excited by the change because we think the move of five Human Resources and Talent Development professionals will improve service for UTMC and the Health Science Campus colleges,” Rubin said. “We have improved service online with self-service options like bidding, address changes, leaves of absence, and Family and Medical Leave Act applications. Now we are purposefully positioning our staff so they can provide value-added support for all HR functions.”

West added, “We anticipate doing the same thing on Main Campus in the future.”

The Health Science Campus satellite office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with flexible hours offered for third shift as needed.
