What’s happening within the Great Lakes?

The University of Toledo will host more than 600 scientists, researchers, educators and students as the latest in research regarding the largest fresh surface water system on Earth is presented during the 52nd Annual Conference on Great Lakes Research May 18-22.

Dr. Carol Stepien, director of the Lake Erie Center and professor of environmental sciences, is chair of the conference’s organizing committee. UT will offer this annual conference in partnership with the International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR).

This year’s theme is “Bridging Ecosystems and Environmental Health Across Our Great Lakes.”

IAGLR is a scientific organization comprised of researchers studying the Laurentian Great Lakes, other large lakes and their watersheds. More than 1,000 members worldwide contribute to the IAGLR’s goals of promoting and communicating research pertaining to large lakes and related issues.

The conference is open to scientists, researchers, educators, students and others interested in such research. A complete schedule of events and speakers will be available as the event draws near.
