The University of Toledo will host Army ROTC cadets from universities around the region who will compete for the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23.
Cadets from The University of Toledo, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, the University of Cincinnati and Bowling Green State University will compete in the two-day fitness evaluation, which will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 22.
The Basic Fitness Test, which includes an 11-by-10-meter sprint, chin-ups, and a 1,000-meter run, will start at 8 a.m. in the Health Education Center on Main Campus. A first-aid knowledge test will follow at 10:40 a.m. in the Health Education Center and Student Recreation Center.
The 100-meter swim in uniform will be held in the Student Recreation Center and also will begin at 10:40 a.m.
The 9mm pistol qualification will start at 8 a.m. at the Sylvania Police Department Firing Range.
On Sunday, a timed road march will begin at 8 a.m. on University Parks Trail.
“It is a very challenging two-day test, but receiving this award is incredibly prestigious and a great accomplishment for our cadets,” said Major Taylor Jones of the UT ROTC.
The decoration is awarded to all German Soldiers. Allied soldiers also may be awarded the badge. The German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency is one of the few approved foreign awards U.S. service members are authorized to wear.
