Mother’s Day jazz concert to feature jazz flautist, vocalist
By Staff : May 5th, 2010The two will perform together at 2 p.m. in Doermann Theater Sunday, May 9, following a special brunch.
Zonjic, a native of Detroit, will headline the concert. He won Album of the Year in April from the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards for Doin’ the D, which features appearances from jazz stars including Kenny G. Zonjic also hosts a weekly jazz radio show on The Wave 94.7 FM in Detroit.
He will be joined by Maysa, who started her career as a backup singer for Stevie Wonder. Maysa became internationally known when she performed on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “The Tonight Show” and then joined the acclaimed British jazz band Incognito in the 1990s. Her 2010 disc, A Woman in Love, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz top 100 chart.Preceding the concert, ticket holders may attend a gourmet Mother’s Day brunch in Libbey Hall on UT’s Main Campus.
Tickets for the concert and brunch are $55, and concert-only tickets are $30.
