“While it is not easy to leave Toledo, I am honored to be selected to lead Ohio State University’s Lima campus,” Gilbert said. “I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to serve The University of Toledo during the past seven years. I have been deeply inspired by the institution’s mission, students and the greater Toledo community as a whole.”

Gilbert, who also serves as director of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies in the College of Languages, Literature and Social Sciences, joined UT as director of the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women from American University in Washington, D.C., where she was a documentary filmmaker and a tenured associate professor in the School of Communication.

Her documentary films have been screened nationally on PBS and in film festivals across the country. Some of her best-known works include “Homecoming … Sometimes I Am Haunted by Memories of Red Dirt and Clay,” about black farmers who started as freed slaves after the Civil War, and “Children Will Listen,” which is about public school children planning and performing a play.

Gilbert is a past recipient of Harvard University’s Radcliffe Fellowship, the Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship and American Council on Education Fellowship.

She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Yale University and a master of fine arts in film and media arts from Temple University.
