    By Emily Hickey : July 7th, 2009

Who wouldn’t want to burn some calories while learning the history behind downtown Toledo? Every Thursday from July 9 through Sept. 17, there’ll be free tours of downtown Toledo from noon until 1 p.m.

The University of Toledo’s Urban Affairs Center and the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library are sponsoring the lunchtime tours led by guides trained in Toledo’s history and architecture.

Tours will occur rain or shine, and parking in downtown Toledo is free between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those who attend the tour also will receive a free copy of the award-winning Discover Downtown Walking Tour Guidebook.

    The scheduled tours are:

July 9: In the Beginning, meet at Jefferson Avenue and Summit Street by the historic marker.

July 16: View from the Rooftop, meet at the corner of Madison Avenue and Michigan Street near the Main Library.

July 23: Panoramic Toledo, meet on the east side of the river at the Docks by the Navy Bistro Restaurant.

July 30: The Other Toledo, meet inside the Weber Block, Front and Main streets.

Aug. 6: View From Levis Square, meet at the Kabuki Dancer sculpture.

Aug. 13: It’s All Greek to Me, meet at Superior & Walnut streets; lunch will be available for $7.99.

Aug. 20: Courthouse Square, meet at McKinley Statue on Adams Street.

Aug. 27: Uptown Downtown, meet at 14th Street and Madison Avenue.

Sept. 3: Living High in the Warehouse District, meet at Washington and St. Clair streets.

Sept. 10: Extreme Makeover — The Casey Pomeroy House, meet at 802 Huron St.

Sept. 17: World of the Feds, meet at the Federal Courthouse, 1776 Spielbusch Ave.
