U.S. News & World Report recognized The University of Toledo Medical Center again as a best hospital in the Toledo metro area for 2014-15.

The magazine ranked UTMC as a high-performer in four clinical specialties: gastroenterology and GI surgery, nephrology, pulmonology, and urology.

It is the fourth consecutive year UTMC has been included in the U.S. News and World Report rankings.

“Recognition of the university-quality care provided by UTMC reinforces the value of an academic medical center in our community,” UTMC CEO David Morlock said. “This recognition is shared by everyone at UTMC who works diligently to ensure our patients have the best care and experience in our hospital and clinics.”

Nearly 5,000 U.S. hospitals were evaluated for the 2014-15 ranking report and only 144 of them performed well enough to rank in at least one of the 16 different adult specialties analyzed by U.S. News.

“U.S. News strives to provide patients and their families with the most comprehensive data available on hospitals,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor, adding that measuring safety performance is critical to understanding how well a hospital cares for its patients.

U.S. News has been publishing hospital rankings since 1990.
