Senior Jennifer Elsholz received the trophy for winning the 98th annual Michigan Women’s Golf Amateur title.

Elsholz’s tournament crown is her second this summer as she captured the 23rd annual Golf Association of Michigan Women’s Championship in July.

She entered match play seeded fourth after tying for third place during qualifying with a 36-hole total of three-over par 147 (75-72). She then posted five straight victories to capture the title, notching a 2&1 victory in the championship match Friday afternoon over Michigan State senior Lindsey McPherson.

On Wednesday, Elsholz posted a 1-up triumph over Butler freshman Kelsey McDougall in the Round of 32. She then posted a 2-up win over Western Michigan sophomore Kaitlyn Watkins to advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday morning before knocking out Tennessee sophomore Hannah Pietila in the quarters, 4&3, in the afternoon.

A Grand Rapids, Mich., native, Elsholz reached the championship by eliminating Wisconsin senior Kimberly Dinh, 1-up, in Friday morning’s semifinals.

“I’m so proud of Jen, and it’s extremely exciting for our entire program,” UT Head Women’s Golf Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “She is one of the most competitive golfers I’ve coached and to see her win this event against a strong field is very impressive.”

Elsholz and the Rockets are scheduled to open their 2014-15 campaign at Michigan State’s Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13-14.
