Quilters to sell raffle tickets to benefit local Komen affiliate
By Matt Lockwood : August 25th, 2009The Promise Quilters, a group of local quilters, many of whom are breast cancer survivors, will sell raffle tickets for their latest creation Thursday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Skyview Food Court in University of Toledo Medical Center.
“Summertime Promise,” a handcrafted quilt, will be raffled off at the conclusion of northwest Ohio’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday, Sept. 27. The queen-sized quilt is a folk art pattern of paper-pieced houses and hand-applied tree blocks with mini quilts on the clothesline.
Michelle Giovanoli, technical manager in Radiation Oncology, also will register runners and walkers to join UT’s Race for the Cure team.
To date, the Promise Quilters have raised more than $200,000 for the northwest Ohio affiliate. “Summertime Promise” is the 12th in a series of annual quilts created by the Promise Quilters to raise money in the fight against breast cancer. Tickets will be sold for $1 each or six for $5.
The Promise Quilters also have created a limited number of 10-inch by 10-inch tabletop quilts, each a one-of-a-kind companion piece to “Summertime Promise.” The tabletop quilts are available for a suggested minimum donation of $30.
For more information, contact Giovanoli at michelle.giovanoli@utoledo.edu or Vicki Riddick, director of community wellness and health promotion and UT’s Race for the Cure captain, at vicki.riddick@utoledo.edu.
