Imagine walking up to a scene with a person acting aggressively in a classroom or making threats to others.

To help the University community deal with these type of situations, the Office of the Provost, in partnership with the UT Police Department, invites faculty and staff to participate in a De-Escalation Training Workshop Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Carlson Library Room 1005.

This training, led by UT Police Lt. Tressa Johnson, will target interventions for use with individuals who are at risk for aggression.

“De-escalation training will give us tips and tools on the use of calm language along with other communication techniques to diffuse, redirect or de-escalate a situation,” said Dr. Amy Thompson, interim associate vice provost of faculty affairs and professor of public health.

Attendees are encouraged to register for the training here.
