Online hiring system to go live today
By Kim Goodin : Wednesday, June 30th, 2010PeopleAdmin, the online system for managing the hiring process of staff employees, will go live today in the following areas: Athletics, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, Judith Herb College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Law, Facilities, Finance, Government Relations, Graduate Studies, Human Resources, Information Technology, Institutional Advancement, Legal, Student Affairs, Innovation Enterprises and the Learning Collaborative.
The activation process will not immediately be campus-wide. According to Bill Logie, vice president for human resources and campus safety, the system will be active in certain departments on Main Campus, where personnel have been trained to use it.
According to Meghan Rayfield, HR employment adviser, “A test group of about 25 employees has been using PeopleAdmin since early May. We’re expanding this group to departments that have been trained on the software as part of a controlled rollout to the entire campus by mid-August.”
Hiring procedures will remain the same on Health Science Campus as users receive training.
PeopleAdmin enables users to perform the following functions:
• Create job requisitions;
• Collect employment applications and materials;
• Update screen applications;
• Automatically update statuses; and
• Increase compliance with federal and state employment laws.
Joely Giammarco, business manager in the UT Learning Collaborative, was in the test group.
“It’s a more efficient tool than what we were using before,” she said. “One of the big advantages is that you can look up a job at any time and see where it is in the approval process. In the old system, you entered it and then lost track of it.”
She said she looks forward to PeopleAdmin’s future inclusion of faculty and, optimally, student positions.
“Having the student component will be a huge help,” she said. “That process is much more active; we sometimes hire every semester.”
Logie asks users to share their experiences so the system can be fine-tuned as necessary.
“We encourage users to send us feedback as they start using the software. One of the advantages of this system is that it can be modified to meet our specific needs.”
Ongoing training courses will continue throughout the summer for system users. Training sessions open to all University employees who want to learn how to find current job postings and how to apply/bid online with the new system will be scheduled during the next few weeks.
