Would you like to play Hamlet, Othello and other famous Shakespearean characters all in the same production? Then you may be the perfect person for a role in “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged),” a play that condenses the bard’s cannon into several zany send-ups.
Auditions for the three to six available roles will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts Center Theatre. Callbacks will be Monday, Jan. 24, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the same location, with rehearsals beginning Monday, Feb. 28. Performances of the play will be April 15 through 24, with Kirby Wahl, UT assistant professor of theatre, directing.
Those trying out for roles are requested to prepare short, comedic monologues. If a contemporary monologue is chosen, one will have to present a Shakespearean piece or “cold read” one at the audition. People trying out also are encouraged to present special or silly skills such as juggling, riding a unicycle or playing a comb.
Callbacks will be posted immediately following the auditions. Familiarity with the play is encouraged for callbacks, as one may be asked to read from the script or improvise the style of the play.
