Art on the Mall set for July 27 on UT’s Main Campus
Jul 24, 2008
More than 100 artists have been selected to display a broad variety of work at The University of Toledo’s 16th annual Art on the Mall juried art exhibit Sunday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Centennial Mall in the center of Main Campus.
Most of the 115 artists have UT or Medical University of Ohio connections, whether as alumni, former students, faculty, staff or other ties. The art fair also may include up to 25 non-affiliated artists, though only those with UT or MUO connections can win the highest honor: UT Best of Show.
Glass, photography, ceramics, jewelry, watercolor and oil paintings, wood, fiber, pen and ink, mixed media and sculpture will cover one of UT’s most beautiful locations. Children’s activities, including face painting and art activities, will be offered throughout the day, and live music will be played as well.
“Word about Art on the Mall has spread further each year, and each year more and more people are returning to campus and experiencing a truly captivating time for anyone who loves art of any kind,” said Ansley Abrams, director of alumni programming.
Preceding the free, public show, the UT Alumni Association will host its annual Kick-Off Gala Saturday, July 26, in the Student Union Auditorium on Main Campus from 6:30 until 9 p.m. Latin jazz, a silent auction and hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and caterers will be featured.
Tickets for the gala are $50 and all proceeds benefit the UT Alumni Association. This year the Kick-Off Gala will feature food from Ciao! Restaurant, Manhattan’s, HJ’s Primecut, Gladieux and Aramark catering.
