The University of Toledo Department of Theatre and Film’s production of Suzan-Lori Parks’ “Topdog/Underdog” has been chosen to perform in the Region III 40th Annual Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival.
Dozens of productions from five states were entered for consideration, and UT's production is one of 10 shows selected. The festival will be held Tuesday through Saturday, Jan. 8-12, in Milwaukee on the campuses of Cardinal Stritch University and Marquette University.
Parks’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play is about two young African-American brothers named Lincoln and Booth whose struggle to survive is overshadowed by the intensity of their love for and rivalry with each other.
Starring in the performance are Danny Ledsinger, a UT alumnus who received a bachelor of arts degree in communication in 2006, who plays Lincoln, and Tyree Troutman, a senior majoring in theatre, as Booth.
The department will hold benefit performances Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 5 and 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts Studio Theatre on Main Campus. Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for all others and are available at www.utoledo.edu/as/theatrefilm and at the door.
