The theaters in New York City may be dark on Mondays, but the stage at The University of Toledo’s Doermann Theater will light up when headliner Tim Shew and his Broadway friends perform “Broadway on Bancroft” on Monday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
The former Toledo actor turned Broadway veteran has sung leading roles in the ever-popular shows “Les Misérables,” “Sunset Boulevard,” “Guys and Dolls,” “King David” and “The Scarlet Pimpernel.” He has been involved in numerous cast recordings, including vocals for the movie “Chicago.” For the past 12 years, Shew has produced “Broadway Sings on Park Avenue,” a concert to benefit children with HIV and AIDS.
For the Toledo performance, Shew will be joined on stage by his sister, Kathy Shew Felchle, a cellist, for a few selections.

| Susan Powell |
Also taking the stage in Toledo will be Susan Powell, host of Discovery Channel’s “Home Matters” who wore the Miss America crown in 1981. She has entertained audiences in theaters, opera houses and concert halls across the country in roles such as Alcamene in “Olympus on My Mind.” She debuted with the New York City Opera as Johanna in Harold Prince’s production of “Sweeney Todd.”
Broadway conductor and Tiffin, Ohio, native Phil Reno will provide musical direction for the program. His credits include “The Producers,” “Cats” and “Thou Shalt Not.”
Proceeds from the one-night-only event will benefit the Shew Music Education Scholarship in UT’s College of Education and the Susie Shew Counseling Scholarship in UT’s College of Health and Human Services. Susie Shew, who is Tim’s mother, received a master’s degree in counseling from UT in 1980.
This performance is dedicated to the memory of UT alumna Celia Koontz Findlay who died in July. The ardent University supporter graduated from UT in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
All seats for the show are reserved and limited and must be purchased in advance by Friday, Sept. 10. A reception for all ticket-holders will precede the event at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby. Tickets for the performance are $125 for a music benefactor that entitles the holder to orchestra-area seating and a private party with the cast after the show; the $60 music patron ticket offers premium seating; and a music friend ticket for general admission seating is $30.
For reservations, contact UT’s Office of Institutional Advancement at 419.530.4927 or e-mail universitydevelopment@utnet.utoledo.edu.
