    Classical Guitarist to Play on Campus

    Petar Jankovic
    Classical guitarist Petar Jankovic will play in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m.

    The Yugoslavia native began studying guitar at age 8 and had his first professional performance at 16. He earned his degree in classical guitar from the Music Academy in Belgrade.

    In 1996, Jankovic was invited to pursue the artist diploma degree at the Indiana University School of Music. In 1997, he created a guitar program at Franklin College. Presently, he is a faculty member at Indiana University, the University of Indianapolis and Franklin College.

    He has won several awards, including first prize at the first Competition in Performance of Hispano-American music in 1998; bronze medal at the 1998 H.R.H. Princess Cristina 13th International Guitar Competition in Madrid, Spain; and bronze medal at the M.M. Ponce International Guitar Competition in Mexico City. He was the first guitarist to win the Graduate Top Strings Award at the Multi-Instrumental Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition in 1997.

    Jankovic has been featured on two discs, Romantico (1998) and Bogdanovic, Brouwer, Dyens … (2002).
