Cool classics to be served up at Summer Sings Program
    By Stacy Moeller
    Jul 7, 2006

The 11th annual Summer Sings Program will be held on Tuesdays, July 11, 18 and 25, in the Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

“Summer Sings is a program in which major choral works are addressed by the registrants through singing, study and performance, all within a timeframe of two and a half hours,” said Dr. Stephen Hodge, UT professor of music and director of choral activities.

The first session, to be held Tuesday, July 11, will be directed by Bernard Sanchez, UT professor emeritus of music. He will present the Puccini masterwork Messa di Gloria.

The Tuesday, July 18, session will be directed by William Schwepe, UT assistant professor of music. He will present Britton’s Festival Te Deum.

The final session, to be held Tuesday, July 25, will be directed by Hodge as he presents the Advent portion of Handel’s Messiah.

According to Hodge, there will be soloists from the area featured during each performance.

Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts Lobby followed by a detailed reading of the selected masterworks at 7 p.m.

All sessions are open to the public. Cost to participate is $10 per session or $25 for all three sessions. Scores and refreshments will be provided. Parking is available with registration.

For more information, contact Hodge or Mae Jo Ritchie at 419.726.1290 at 419.530.4558.
