Freshman filmmakers: Showcase your artistic vision by creating a short video that captures the essence of being a first-year student during the uncUT First-Year iMovie Festival.
According to Jennifer Rockwood, director of the First-Year Experience (FYE) Program, the idea is similar to something at Duke University. “I think it’s going to help students bond, make friends and learn to work within a deadline.”
Teams must consist of four to five members. Two group members must attend an informational session on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Student Union Room 2591 or on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 3 to 4 p.m. in Student Union Room 3018.
Following training, groups will submit storyboards of the three- to five-minute films. Ten groups will be chosen to create the final products and will be loaned camera equipment. The films will be due Nov. 4, with the finalists screened in Doermann Theater Nov. 19.
At the screening, a panel of campus, community and celebrity judges will select a winner. The first-place team will win an Apple iPod, with restaurant dinners, magazine subscriptions and other prizes given away to participants.
