Activist and author Robert Meeropol will discuss the death penalty, his parents’ case, and the parallels between 1953 and the political climate of post-9/11 America in a public lecture titled, “Capital Conspiracy: The Death Penalty in Post 9-11 America” Thursday, Oct 23, at noon at The University of Toledo Law Center Auditorium.
Meeropol was six-years-old when his parents, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, were sent to the electric chair after one of the most controversial trials in American history. He is the author of the new memoir about his parents’ trial, An Execution in the Family: One Son’s Journey.
“Robert Meeropol knows first hand about the effects of world politics on the lives of children. He has not only lived through a maelstrom and survived to tell the tale, but has dedicated his life and his work to helping children who have lost their parents through imprisonment and persecution…Meeropol's honest and gripping story has never been more relevant than in the present erosion of civil liberties and mistrust of dissent,” said author Marge Piercy about Meeropol’s book.
The event is sponsored by the UT College of Law.
