More than 200 community and business leaders will learn about the feasibility of using solar technology to augment conventional energy resources in area schools during a presentation by the Alternative Energy Partnership on Tuesday, Feb. 24, beginning at noon in the Toledo Club Belvedere Room.
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur will be on hand to introduce Dr. Ken Zweibel, manager of the Thin-Film Photovoltaic Partnership Program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo. He will discuss recent breakthroughs in solar energy technologies.
In addition, Sen. Teresa Fedor will introduce Glen Kizer, president of the Foundation for Environmental Education. Kizer will present information about “Schools Going Solar,” a federally funded program that introduces solar electricity to communities by adding solar panels to schools.
The Alternative Energy Partnership is a collaborative research effort between UT, Bowling Green State University, Owens Community College, and numerous government and industry partners. Established in November 2002, the partnership works to bring together university researchers with industry, government and development organizations to help Toledo emerge as a national center in the development of alternative energy technologies.
