Alums to Be Honored by Alma Mater This Week |

During Homecoming week, The University of Toledo will honor three alumni who have made significant contributions to the University and the community.
The Blue T, Gold T and Outstanding Young Alum awards will be presented during the Red, White, Blue and Gold UT Alumni Association Awards Gala on Friday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Auditorium. The honorees also will ride in the Homecoming Parade and be recognized by President Dan Johnson during halftime of the UT-Ball State football game on Saturday, Oct. 12.

| Dr. Lance Talmage |
The 2002 Blue T Award will be presented to Dr. Lance A. Talmage. It is given to a UT Alumni Association member who has made outstanding contributions to the progress and development of the association and the University.
Talmage graduated from UT in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He is a retired U.S. Army brigadier general and has served on numerous community and medical organizations. Talmage is the medical director and director of ambulatory gynecology at the Center for Women’s Health at Toledo Hospital.
He also has served the UT community. Talmage is a former president of the board of trustees of the Alumni Association and has been a member of the awards, activities and memberships committees.

| Birdel Jackson |
Birdel F. Jackson is the recipient of the 2002 Gold T Award. This award is presented to a UT Alumni Association member in recognition of outstanding achievement in his or her field while providing leadership and noteworthy service to the community.
Jackson graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1968. He is the founder and president of B&E Jackson and Associates in Atlanta. Jackson was named Engineer of the Year in 1997 by the Coalition of Georgia Engineering Organizations and was honored with the 2002 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Metro-Atlanta Engineer Week through the Georgia Engineering Alliance.
Besides serving as one of three out-of-state members on the Alumni Association board of trustees, Jackson also is involved in community organizations. He lectures monthly at a local high school and mentors a young man as part of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s Project Success program.
The 2002 Outstanding Young Alum Award will be presented to Jay Pearson. It is awarded to an alum 35 years old or younger in recognition of achievement in his or her field while providing leadership and noteworthy service to the Alumni Association, University or community.
Pearson is a 1991 UT graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was business development manager for First Data Corp. and was named vice president of sales for National Accounts with IC Systems in February.
Pearson has been involved with the Alumni Association since 1998. He serves as the president of the Columbus chapter.
Tickets for the dinner are $25 for UT Alumni Association members and $30 for non-members.
