President Dan Johnson wants Thursday, April 24, to be an important day on the campus of The University of Toledo — he’s designated it Faculty Appreciation Day.
“When you consider the magnitude of the contributions our faculty make, a day to say thank you seems fitting,” Johnson said. “Our faculty touch, inspire and influence lives far beyond our campus borders. Whether in the classroom, in the research lab or in the community — they are making a difference and I, as many others, genuinely appreciate that generosity.”

The formal faculty appreciation celebration will take place in the evening and includes an 8 p.m. performance of Shostakovich’s 10th Symphony by the Toledo Symphony in the Henry J. Doermann Theater. The Toledo Symphony will be led by guest conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky, principal conductor and artistic adviser to the Ulster Orchestra.
Faculty and their guests also are invited to a wine and cheese reception, which precedes the concert, and will take place outside of the theater. The entire event is being underwritten by private parties.
In addition to the performance, there will be other gestures of thanks throughout the day.
“As a representative of the faculty, I would like to thank Dr. Johnson for this unique day of showing his and the administration’s gratitude for all the contributions the faculty make to this University,” said Dr. Alice Skeens, associate professor of psychology. “My faculty colleagues are very dedicated and hard working, and they certainly deserve this day.”
Faculty members who wish to RSVP or get more information on the performance can contact Jeanne Coates, special events coordinator for the Office of the President, at 419.530.8527.
