    Auditions for ‘The Vagina Monologues’ taking place
    By Krista M. Hayes
    Nov 14, 2005

    This week The University of Toledo Power of Women student organization will hold open auditions for “The Vagina Monologues” in the Student Union.

    Audition times, dates, and rooms are:

    • Monday, Nov. 14, 4-7 p.m., room 2561;

    • Tuesday, Nov. 15, 4-7 p.m., room 2561;

    • Wednesday, Nov. 16, 4-7 p.m., room 2562;

    • Thursday, Nov. 17, 4-7 p.m., room 2561; and

    • Friday, Nov. 18, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., room 2562.

    The UT production is slated to take place Feb. 10-12.

    “The Vagina Monologues” was written by Eve Ensler. Her other plays include “Lemonade,” “The Depot,” “Floating Rhoda and the Glue Man,” “Extraordinary Measures,” “Ladies” and “Scooncat.” She received a 1999 Guggenheim Fellowship in playwriting.

    More than 200 women were interviewed about their experiences and memories of sexuality for “The Vagina Monologues.” It has been performed across the country and has inspired V-Day, a call for stopping violence against women.

    Started in 1997, V-Day has spread to more than 300 colleges, where students and faculty have performed “The Vagina Monologues” on V-Day, Feb. 14. V-Day has raised over $3 million, which goes to organizations fighting for the rights of women in Afghanistan, to stop genital mutilation in Kenya, and rape crisis centers in Bosnia, Croatia and Chechnya, as well as hundreds of domestic programs to combat rape and abuse.

    For more information on the free, open auditions, contact Lesley Wright of the UT Power of Women at 419.376.2373 or at lesleykate@hotmail.com.
