On Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. The University of Toledo Retirees Association will host a seminar in the Driscoll Alumni Center Schmakel Room featuring guest speaker Dr. Sayed Amjad Hussain.
Hussain, a Pakistan native and expert on the historical development of Afghanistan and Pakistan, will speak about “The Taliban: From British India to the Caves of Tora Bora,” sharing information he gathered during a recent trip to the area. A question-and-answer period will follow his presentation.
Hussain has led four expeditions to explore and photograph the Indus River in Tibet and Pakistan, and he was part of a team that was the third group in history to explore the river at its origin in the Kailas Mountain Range in western Tibet. In 1999 the team’s accomplishments were made into an hourlong documentary by WGTE, an affiliate of the Public Broadcasting Station.
He is the author of numerous books, including The Taliban and Beyond: A Close Look at the Afghan Nightmare (2001) and The Frontier Town of Peshawan: A Brief History (1998), and is a founding member and a past president of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America and past president of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.
Hussain is a clinical professor of surgery at the Medical College of Ohio and writes an opinion column for The Blade.
Reservations for the free event are requested by Friday, Feb. 11. Parking spaces at Driscoll Alumni Center will be reserved for seminar attendees.
For more information on the event, call 419.530.4237 or 419.530.2586.
