Author and rapper Sister Souljah will speak at the University on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Student Union Room 2592.
Souljah is the author of The Coldest Winter Ever, a national best seller, and No Disrespect.
She is the executive director of Daddy’s House Social Programs, where she educates and prepares youths ages 6-16 teaching academic, cultural and financial control. Her curriculum includes geography, current events, history, reading and mathematics.
As a rapper, her debut album, 360 Degrees of Power, sparked conversation on issues of education, racism, sexism, preparation and reparations.
Souljah has been a motivator and creative force behind hip-hop stars and their efforts to give back to the community. Working with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Lauryn Hill and Doug E. Fresh, she has been the designer, producer and architect for major youth events, programs and summer camps.
In addition to lecturing internationally, she has appeared on “Oprah,” “Phil Donahue,” “The Today Show,” MTV, Black Entertainment Television, and various news and magazine-format television shows.
Souljah graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in American history and African-American studies. She also completed the advanced placement program at Cornell University and studied abroad at the University of Salamanca in Spain.
