The Memorial Field House will return to prominence with a grand opening celebration Thursday, Sept. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The event will be held in conjunction with the President’s Backyard BBQ on Centennial Mall near the Field House.
Faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to welcome back the Field House with a brief program at 12:30 p.m. and informal tours of the facility. In addition to the free picnic, there will be music “from the day.”
As the grand opening of the renovated Memorial Field House nears, the University community is remembering the history of the building. Hear recollections from former Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Nichols and Barbara Floyd, university archivist and director of the Ward M. Canaday Center for Special Collections, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=21x7grJ6Cfw.
Nichols and Floyd are just a few people from the University’s past, present and future to be interviewed for a commemorative video that will be shown during the grand opening. Stay tuned this week for more sneak previews.
