An eclectic array of culinary concoctions fills Recipes for Hope, a cookbook created to benefit cancer research at The University of Toledo Health Science Campus.
“I have had two neighbors pass away from cancer; this cookbook is helping keep their memories alive with me, as well as aiding others who are battling the disease,” explained Kathy Shropshire, nurse in the Geri-Psych Unit at the UT Medical Center. Shropshire compiled the book and established the fund at the MUO Foundation that benefits from its sales.
More than 300 recipes contributed by employees, patients and friends of UT grace the pages of Recipes for Hope. The dishes range from standard — such as taco dip — to extraordinary — like Maria’s deep-dish BLT pizza. And for all those dessert diehards there are plenty of delectable after-dinner delights, including the double chocolate mocha trifle and the cookies ‘n’ cream fudge brownies.
There are eight different sections of recipes in the book: appetizers, breads, main and side dishes, cookies, soups and a variety of sauces, seasonings and spreads.
Recipes for Hope can be purchased for $10 at the MUO Foundation, the University Cancer Center, the UT Health Science Campus Bookstore and the Satellite Gift Shop located in the UT Medical Center. A $2 dollar charge will be added to any orders that require shipping.
“Alone, a $10 contribution may not seem like much; however, together our purchases are making a real difference,” Shropshire said.
