Members of the UT chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) voted to authorize a strike in response to proposed health-care changes.
In the polling that ended at noon Dec. 13, 80 percent voted to authorize a strike, with 20 percent casting their ballots toward not authorizing a strike.
Harvey Wolff, president of the UT-AAUP and professor of mathematics, said the union would have to provide a 10-day notice if they did decide to strike. However, “we are continuing to negotiate, and I certainly hope we are able to settle this without extreme measures,” he said.
