    AVI Announces New Venues, Hours
    By Deanna Lytle
    Aug 24, 2004

A patron checks out the new Starbucks Coffee in the Student Union.
Walking through the Student Union, you may catch a whiff of coffee, the scent of a burger and the aroma of fried chicken. Construction on the North Food Court was completed Monday, transforming the spaces into new dining venues for the campus community.

“We hope to have everything open this week,” said Sara Young, marketing director for AVI Dining Services.

Starbucks Coffee occupies the candy counter's space on the first floor of the Student Union. Baristas are there to serve up lattes and frappuccinos Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The North Food Court also has some new occupants. Back Yard Burgers, KFC Express and Pizza Hut join Magic Wok and Subway in the remodeled venue. Hours are Monday through Thursday 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

New stations in residence dining halls have been added, as well. The Mongolian barbeque and a feature called Pizza Me Up are located in the Crossings. The Mongolian barbeque allows customers to combine their choice of vegetables, chicken, shrimp and sauces and have it grilled and served over rice or noodles. Hungry denizens also can make their own personal pizzas in five to six minutes at Pizza Me Up. Both of these stations will operate Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m. The International House will feature an international foods line rotating Mediterranean, Asian and other cuisines Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

The South Dining Hall will have a Carved to Order line featuring turkey, ham, roast beef and other meats with a variety of sauces Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. The Scott Park Café also will have a new deli bar from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

Other campus dining venues and hours are:

    • International House Convenience Shop — Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

    • Cyber Fresh and Freshens Smoothies — Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 until 1 a.m.
