Alleged UT stabbing victim recants story: Assault fabricated as apparent ‘cry for attention’
    By Tobin J. Klinger
    Mar 16, 2005

A 22-year-old woman has confessed to University of Toledo Police that she staged the assault that allegedly took place outside the Health and Human Services Building on March 9.

According to Chief John Dauer, detectives interviewed Cassandra Livingston for a third time Tuesday. During the interview, Livingston admitted to police that she had faked the incident, going so far as to inflict a stab wound to her own thigh.

“Obviously, this revelation changes the situation dramatically,” said Dauer. “Instead of looking for a pair of suspects we are now forced to debate charges against Livingston.”

A decision as to whether Livingston will be charged in the incident will be forthcoming. She could face prosecution for filing a false report with police.

“It is apparent that this is an individual that would benefit from some type of counseling,” said Dauer. “We are working to help in that regard right now and will then determine if charges are warranted.”

“I would like to thank the members of the campus and Toledo communities that attempted to help in our investigation,” added Dauer. “But while this incident proved a fabrication, I would encourage everyone to remain diligent in their efforts to keep themselves safe. We are proud of our safety record at The University of Toledo, but even one real incident of this nature would be too much.”
