The University of Toledo’s executive director of alumni relations, Steve Shockley, has resigned his position, citing a desire to explore other career opportunities.
Stepping in as interim executive director will be Jeff Huffman, UT’s director of alumni programming, said Brenda Lee, interim vice president for institutional advancement.
Shockley, who came to the University in December 1999, said, “I’d like to explore some other career opportunities that I have before me. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished at The University of Toledo in the last two and a half years, especially the naming of the Driscoll Center as the Driscoll Alumni Center and launching a membership campaign that should lead to a 20 percent increase by year’s end.”
He is also proud of coming up with the concept for the Rocket Roadster, a custom vehicle that travels to alumni tailgate parties. “I secured private funding for its construction costs and created the opportunity for engineering students to use it as their senior design class project,” Shockley noted.
Shockley also pointed to the development of UTAP, the University of Toledo Advocacy Partners, in conjunction with Sally Perz, executive director of government relations. The organization of alumni leaders helps press for more state funding for the University. “I wish the association and the University well as it tries to overcome declining state support,” Shockley said.
Lee said, “I appreciate Steve’s efforts on behalf of the University, and I will miss working with him.”
C. Vernon Snyder, who becomes vice president for institutional advancement on July 1, said, “I wish Steve the best of luck as he continues along his career track.”
The University plans to launch a national search for a replacement.
