Sue Ott Rowlands, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of theatre, will reprise her role in Tony Kushner’s “Homebody/Kabul” at Paszmany Peter Catholic University in Piliscsaba, Hungary, Friday, May 26.

“I’ve taught in Hungary several times, but this is my first time performing there. I’m looking forward to it,” said Ott Rowlands.

She said the performance stems from the UT department of theatre and film’s collaborative agreement with the University of Debrecen in Debrecen, Hungary. “One of the things we had talked about doing was having me come and perform for the Hungarian Society for the Study of Drama in English Conference,” Ott Rowlands explained. While she couldn’t fit it into her schedule last year, she is happy to be able to perform this year.

She decided to perform the part of Homebody, a bored housewife who becomes fascinated with Afghanistan, from the fall 2005 UT production of “Homebody/Kabul.” Although Ott Rowlands hadn’t looked at the part since January, “it was actually still pretty much in my head. I’ve been brushing up on it this week. It’s not as hard as I thought it would be to relearn it,” she said.

Ott Rowlands also will use her time in Hungary to finalize dates and venues for performances of her one-woman show, “Mercury Seven With Signs Following,” for late September and early October.
