The board of trustees today unanimously approved a pay increase for President Dan Johnson. He will earn $240,000 per year, up 11.6 percent from his previous $215,000 salary.
Joan Uhl Browne, chair of the board of trustees, said Johnson has earned and deserves the additional compensation.
“We felt he came in with a great many challenges this year,” said Browne. “He met and, in many cases, exceeded expectations.”
In addition to the raise, the board voted to extend the president’s contract for an additional two years, to June 30, 2006. Earlier in the meeting, the president reported to board members on the numerous planning initiatives currently under way on campus. Browne said the contract extension is symbolic of the board’s commitment to these processes and the president.
“We’re right in the middle of all these planning stages,” said Browne. “[President Johnson] is crucial to all that.”
Johnson said he feels the University is the right fit for he and his wife, Elaine, and that he “appreciate[s] the action of the board and knowing that they feel as I do.”
