University trustees today applauded the accomplishments of the past year as President Dan Johnson provided his self-assessment of the institutional goals and accomplishments during the regular board meeting.
“The [assessment] committee agreed as a whole that this institution is better off then it was a year ago,” said Richard Stansley, vice chair and chair of the presidential assessment committee.
In broad terms, the board charged the president and administration with achieving five goals. Those goals were move forward on:
• Academic quality;
• Capital campaign;
• Future funding;
• Collaboration and implementation of the Commission on Higher Education and the Economy report; and
• The Northwest Ohio Science and Technology Corridor.
“We have made a lot of progress in light of a lot of moving targets,” added Daniel Brennan, board chair.
During his presentation, Johnson characterized the accomplishments as a campus-wide effort.
“As much as possible… we’ve worked to organize our efforts around these goals,” Johnson said.
After trustees complimented the president, it was time to say goodbye to the board member most closely linked to selecting him for the position.
Trustee Joan Uhl Browne earned a standing ovation as she completed her nine-year term.
Browne pointed to her role with the presidential search committee in 2001 as the thing she is most proud of from her term.
“It has been an honor to serve this nine years,” Browne said. “I look forward to watching all the accomplishments [continue].”
“There is no question that Joan has had a very positive impact during her nine-year term,” said Johnson during his opening report.
