Interim director named to lead Research Administration Office |

Dr. James P. Trempe, UT professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology in the College of Medicine, has been appointed interim senior director of research administration.
His appointment began Oct. 1. Trempe is assuming the responsibilities performed by Dr. Douglas Wilkerson, who is retiring in December.
Overseeing the Office of Research Administration, Trempe is responsible for all regulatory compliance, including proper biosafety procedures, monitoring animal care and use, human subject protection, and ensuring the quality and integrity of University research.
He will manage all pre-award functions, including administrative review and approval of proposals and awards; grant and contract negotiations; subcontract development and negotiation; and monitoring, development and implementation of University policies regarding research.
A member of the faculty in the Department of Biochemistry and Cancer Biology since 1989, Trempe’s research is focused on the Adeno-Virus as a broad-based vector system for human gene therapy.
