The University of Toledo has named Norman Stevens of Rochester Hills, Mich., as the new co-director for the Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization.
Stevens will be responsible for helping advance solar technology research in Ohio and assisting the various stakeholders in achieving their visions.
Dr. Frank Calzonetti, vice president for research development, said Stevens’ knowledge and experience will help the region continue its leadership position in solar energy research, production and use.
Stevens brings with him nearly 40 years of experience in the energy industry. He comes to the University from DTE Energy in Detroit, where he served as program manager for alternative energy.
“His expertise fills an important niche within the Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization,” said Dr. Robert Collins, professor of physics, the Nippon Electric Glass Chair in Silicate and Material Science, and principal investigator and chief architect of the center.
Stevens holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and MBA from Wayne State University.
“I found the people here to be friendly, cooperative and inspired in what they’re doing,” Stevens said. “I’m really excited about what we have in front of us and realized that working together we will accomplish many things.”
The Wright Center for Photovoltaics Innovation and Commercialization was created in January 2007 and consists of science and technology platforms that adapt applications for clean electricity generation.
