The University of Toledo will celebrate the award of a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration Thursday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. with a check presentation and groundbreaking ceremony for a new incubator to help startup businesses.
The event will be held between UT’s Clean and Alternative Energy Incubator and the Nitschke Hall Auditorium by the College of Engineering on Main Campus.
The grant will go toward a new, 40,000-square-foot building that will consist of laboratories and office space to house a mix of technology startup companies. Construction is expected to be complete in fall 2009.
The federal dollars will be matched by state and local funds, including $1.5 million from UT supporter Norman Nitschke, making it a $4 million project.
Speakers at the event will include Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Nitschke and state government representatives.
