UT trustees affirm confidence in president with contract extension |

The University of Toledo Board of Trustees today extended the contract of President Lloyd Jacobs by two years. During a special meeting this morning, trustees voted unanimously to retain Jacobs as president through Nov. 16, 2013.
Jacobs has been UT’s president since the July 2006 merger of the Medical University of Ohio and The University of Toledo. Prior to that, he had served as MUO president since November 2003.
“The board has been extremely happy with the way the merger of two great institutions has evolved and progressed over these last few years,” said Richard Stansley, chairman of the UT Board of Trustees. “We are building the future of this institution on a foundation of excellence, thanks in large part to the efforts of Lloyd Jacobs.”
“This extension ensures that the University will enjoy a continuity of leadership as the campuses work together to realize the vision of our strategic plan,” Stansley added. “Whether we are growing our enrollment, building the partnerships that will foster the learning of future physicians, growing our research enterprise, bolstering the role of the liberal arts, or striving to better focus on the needs of our students and patients, it is extremely important that we have a leader in place that can balance competing interests and priorities while keeping his eyes clearly focused on the horizon.”
“Lloyd Jacobs is that leader,” Stansley said.
“It is a tremendous honor to serve in this role at this pivotal time in the history of this great institution,” Jacobs said. “The support and confidence the board has provided these last five years have been truly humbling. Together, we can continue to build upon our strong foundation and realize our mission of improving the human condition in all its many forms.”
