Many computer users around campus had a new homepage when they launched their Web browser Monday morning. The reason: a need to increase registration with the University’s “Red Alert” emergency notification system.
“The ‘Red Alert’ system was launched in the fall,” said Lawrence J. Burns, vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications. “But given the events at Northern Illinois University on Feb. 14, as well as an expansion to include class cancellations as part of the system’s uses, it seems prudent to drive registration in this manner.”
Users will be able to personalize the setting again beginning Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. should they choose to do so; however, the “Red Alert” sign-up is located on the UT portal login page at myUT.utoledo.edu, which is the primary electronic communications vehicle for internal news and information.
“We are hoping that our campus community will keep myUT as their homepage after registering,” Burns said. “While there is a lot of valuable information on our University homepage, myUT contains even more news that impacts your work and academic life.”
MyUT is home to UToday, an online news page, and University Announcements, a collection of important campus-wide information, the campus directory and links to electronic calendars.
