The Office of Affirmative Action recently changed its name to the Office of Institutional Diversity.
According to Dr. Samuel Hancock, assistant to the president for institutional diversity, the primary reason for the name change was to lessen confusion that would be created if two names existed for what essentially is one office.
"Now that our institutions have merged, we no longer need two names," Hancock said.
He added that Institutional Diversity is a more "global" name and is more descriptive of all the areas the office is involved with, such as diversity training and Americans With Disabilities Act issues.
Joining Hancock in the newly named office is Ricky Walker, senior director for affirmative action, and Sandra Rivers, manager of diversity programs.
For more information, contact Kerry Rottenstein, administrative assistant 2 in the Office of Institutional Diversity, at 419.530.2508 or Rivers on the Health Science Campus at 419.383.3609.
