Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling fund-raiser to take place in February
    By Chelsea-Lynn Carey
    Jan 30, 2008

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio is hosting a non-competitive bowling fund-raiser at three local bowling alleys on the four weekends in February to raise money for the organization.

On Feb. 2 and 3, bowling will take place at Interstate Lanes in Rossford; on Feb 9 and 10 and Feb. 23 and 24, bowling will take place at Imperial Lanes in Toledo; and Feb. 16 and 17, bowling will take place at Southwyck Lanes in Toledo. There will be two sessions each day, with starting times of noon and 3 p.m. The cost is $50 for each adult, and for each student the cost is $25.

Every 30 minutes throughout the fund-raiser, there will be a door prize awarded thanks to donations by local merchants, said Jennifer Rockwood, UT director of the First-Year Experience Program and local Big Sister. Also, one bowler will win a four-day cruise to the Bahamas donated by AAA of Northwest Ohio.

“The purpose of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to organize, under professional direction, mature and responsible individuals to provide, on a volunteer basis, a role model to children who are in need of a wholesome relationship with a positive role model, and thus, to provide companionship and guidance to such children and to help assure their proper moral, psychological, intellectual, vocational and physical development,” Rockwood said.

“Part of our mission at the University is to mentor our community’s youth. It is natural for me because of the First-Year Experience Program. As faculty and staff, we can set a good example for strong civic engagement with our city and surrounding area,” she said.

Those interested in hitting the lanes to participate in the fund-raiser should contact Rockwood at 419.530.2330 or e-mail jennifer.rockwood@utoledo.edu.
