The deadline to turn in book orders for summer and fall has passed, according to UT Bookstore officials.
“For students to receive maximum money for their used books, orders need to be turned in immediately,” said Colleen Strayer, bookstore general manager. “By getting book orders in early, the bookstore is able to buy back used books from students, earning the students money and, in turn, also allowing us to sell more used books, saving money for students next semester.”
Strayer reported that used book sales are up 15 percent from last year.
“Used books are 25 percent less than new,” Strayer said. “As a result, this year alone UT students have saved almost $600,000 by buying used books rather than new.”
Strayer also stated that UT Bookstores have paid students almost $1 million for their textbooks this year in buyback.
“This is made possible through talking to students and urging them to go to their professors to get orders in, allowing students to get more cash back for their books,” she said.
“In meetings with faculty, we urge them when making a textbook decision to talk to the publishers about keeping the book in the same edition longer, and also to utilize text alone wherever possible rather than a package,” Strayer added. “Those two factors greatly increase the number of used textbooks available and that’s what students are looking for.”
To turn in textbook orders, contact the UT Bookstore at 419.530.2516 for Main Campus or Art Store, 419.530.3305 for Scott Park or 419.383.4216 for the Health Science Campus, or visit http://www.utoledo.edu/bookstores/index.html.
