Borders in Toledo is holding a book drive through Aug. 31 to benefit Reach Out and Read of Northwest Ohio, a childhood literacy program coordinated by The University of Toledo Department of Pediatrics.
Besides promoting literacy, Reach Out and Read Ohio provides books for children. In doing so, the program has served more than 10,000 children at the 14 sites around the city of Toledo.
Borders has in-store displays that are full of recommended books to donate. Customers who wish to participate in the drive can pick any of these books, take it the cash register and tell the cashier they want to purchase and donate the book for the program.
Customers also are welcome to pick out their own favorite age-appropriate book to donate.
“UT pediatricians encourage a love of reading in their patients through the Reach Out and Read program,” said Dr. David Krol, chair of the Department of Pediatrics. “The partnership between Reach Out and Read and Borders will help UT pediatricians, their patients and their families to continue this important effort.”
