During the recent UT bowling tournament fund-raiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, those in attendance were able to meet someone who would be affected by their hard work.
A young girl whose cancer is in remission was at the bowling alley for her brother’s birthday and came over to thank everyone for all that they do because she will get a wish granted by Make-A-Wish of Northwest Ohio.
“We had a great time and will do more in the future and open the tournament up to anyone who wants to participate,” said George Hayes, UT electrician who helped organize the Doug Peatee Bobble Head Make-A-Wish Bowling Tournament, which took place at Imperial Lanes earlier this month.
The UT electricians were able to present the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northwest Ohio with $1,362 from those who bowled and many others who could not attend but donated money.
A representative from the Make-A-Wish Foundation threw out the first ball to start the tournament and also set up a silent auction. There was a 50/50 raffle, in which both of the winners, Kathy Ward and UT Electrician Glenn Mathiesen, donated their share back to the fund-raiser.
Brandon Hermes’ team took home the first-place prize of $300, and Sherese Williamson’s team received $150 for second place.
This year’s tournament had 66 bowlers, and according to Hayes, they are hoping for an even larger turnout next year.
The UT electricians would like to thank Terrie Janowski for coming up with the door prizes, and those who helped and donated such as Ellen Richardson, clerical specialist in Facilities Management, and Graingers, Belamere Suites and Clarion Hotel.
