Earlier this year, University administrators opted to stop bus service between the Main Campus and Kenwood Garden Apartments. The move saved UT more than $58,000. But thanks to the efforts of a group of students in the College of Engineering, the route has been restored and significant savings will still be realized.
“We listened to the concerns of our engineering students and responded,” said Bill Logie, vice president for administration. “They conducted an analysis and developed a proposal that will meet the needs of our students and save some money.”
The route, which was traveled between 10 and 16 times per day, five days a week, will now run three times daily, Monday through Friday, with two trips on weekends. The revised schedule is expected to cost approximately $20,400 annually.
“We have pickup and drop-off in the early morning, at mid-morning and at night, which is consistent with when the students felt the route was needed most,” said Diana Ganues, acting associate vice president for facilities operations. “We have also added weekend service, which had not been available previously.”
"My sincere thanks to Vice Presidents Logie and [Daniel] Morissette and their staff for their support in bringing this important service back," said Dr. Nagi Naganathan, dean of the College of Engineering. "This is evidence of the University administration's commitment to be responsive to the needs of our students."
