Candidate selected in Arts and Sciences dean search
    By Tobin J. Klinger
    May 25, 2007

The final phase in the search for a new dean for the College of Arts and Sciences is under way, as negotiations begin with the selected candidate.

    Lee
Dr. Rosemary Haggett, incoming Main Campus provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, today announced the selection of Dr. Yueh-Ting Lee, professor of social and cross-cultural psychology and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Minot State University in North Dakota, for the position.

“Dr. Lee is an exceptional candidate who brings to The University of Toledo the diversity of experience and academic background that I believe will help the College of Arts and Sciences reach new heights of excellence,” Haggett said. “His leadership experience and global scope made him a front runner for this key position.”

“I considered it an honor to be named a finalist for this position,” Lee said. “To be asked to serve as dean of The University of Toledo’s College of Arts and Sciences is an even greater joy.”

The selection and a start date are subject to contract negotiation and approval by the Board of Trustees.

“We will be working hard to come to an agreement on a contract immediately,” said Bill Logie, vice president for administration, who is overseeing the negotiation since Haggett will not officially start as provost until July 1.

Lee will replace Sue Ott Rowlands, who has served as interim dean since July 1, 2005. She has accepted a position as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg.

“We have a terrific pool of finalists for the position, each of whom has many strong characteristics,” Haggett said. “ I want to thank each and every member of the search committee for their commitment, enthusiasm and passion for this search. Without their diligence, this process and selection would not have been possible.”
