Car wash for Detective Dressel’s step-daughter to be held April 28
    By Stacy Moeller
    Apr 26, 2007

Come get your car washed Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and help raise money for Toledo Police Detective Keith Dressel’s 6-year-old step-daughter, Sydney.

Dressel was shot to death Feb. 21. Killed in the line of duty, Dressel’s death has had a profound impact on his family, area police departments and the community.

The event will take place at The University of Toledo Main Campus in Lot 25 in front of Rocket Hall, located on the corner of Dorr Street and Secor Road. All proceeds donated will go to Sydney’s education fund.

“St. Francis has organized a bunch of fund-raisers for Detective Dressel’s son, but nothing has been done to raise money for Sydney,” said Kendra Ries, UTPD dispatcher. “I felt compelled that something needed to be done for her as well.”

According to Ries, the goal is to raise $20,000 for Sydney. She plans to organize other events this summer to reach that mark.

The event is being sponsored by The University of Toledo Police Department with several organizations donating time and items for the car wash.

Nearly 80 UT students from the Greek Village have volunteered to work at the car wash in four-hour shifts. Russ’s Car Wash donated soap and rags, Lambertville Hardware donated sponges and long-bristle brushes, and UT’s Grounds Department is supplying hosing and water lines for the event.

Cottage Inn also is supplying free pizza that will be sold for donation.

“This tragedy has made us all more aware and realize how precious our lives are,” Ries said. “What we do is more than a job, it is our lives. Detective Dressel is part of our police family and puts everything we do in perspective.”
