The evolution of the new University of Toledo has taken another step with a name change for the clinical enterprise.
University administrators announced the decision Tuesday with a memorandum to all hospital employees, then at the regular Operational Leadership Team meeting Wednesday morning.
“In an effort to evolve the identity of University Medical Center, the clinical enterprise composed of our hospitals and clinics will now be named The University of Toledo Medical Center,” wrote Dr. Jeffrey Gold, executive vice president and provost for health affairs and dean of the College of Medicine, and Mark Chastang, vice president and executive director of the medical center.
According to Esther Fabian, director of health-care marketing, items that have been created with the University Medical Center logo, particularly forms and marketing materials, may continue to be used.
While institutional leaders acknowledge that this change will impact paperwork required to notify regulatory, certification and accrediting bodies, they assert that the change will be to the ultimate benefit of the enterprise.
“Together we can accomplish great things on the journey toward excellence,” wrote Gold and Chastang. “As The University of Toledo Medical Center, we now draw upon the strength of the UT name, to position our brand of university-quality health care and propel us into the future as a significant part of a new organization.”
The change will first be evident on the medical center Web site, which will change to utmc.utoledo.edu next week. Health Science Campus signage — including that on the hospital building — is scheduled to be updated to reflect the new name and the UT crest by the end of 2006.
